Here's Sam Furukawa's "Cherry Creek Timber Company" Shay again. Whoever loaded her with wood must've been in a real hurry, eh? The old guy I worked for when I was a kid woulda canned me if I'd ever stacked firewood like that. . .

From the look of the rest of her, what with the fire hose still connected to the water pump, the reason it's still that way is prolly 'cause the darned spark arrestor screen's been blown clean apart.

In all fairness, wood and coal smoke are acrid, as you know. And stuff subjected to 'em tends to rust, or rot. 'Specially when they got wet. So these old wire spark arrestors lasted a season or so, then they'd start to look like this here one on Sam's shay. 'Pretty convincing, isn't it?
